Food Safety
ELF protects the food supply from toxins that cause cancers and birth defects by using Proposition 65.  Under Prop 65, the Governors of California have listed hundreds of chemicals "known to the State of California to cause cancer" or birth defects or other reproductive harm.  Under the law, none of the listed chemicals should be in our food supply unless consumers are first given a warning.  ELF is vigorously prosecuting actions against food manufacturers and retailers who sell products containing Prop 65 carcinogens or reproductive toxins without giving consumers a "clear and reasonable" warning so that they can make informed choices about the foods they purchase.
